Oosik – Denali Nordic Ski Club

Denali Nordic Ski Club presents:

The 17th Annual Oosik Classic Ski Race/Tour – March 17, 2018

A fun and funky 50km/25km cross country classic ski race and tour followed by a great party!

Celebrate the end of the ski season Talkeetna Style. The Oosik Classic puts the “country” back into cross country skiing. This one of a kind classic race and tour features a new and different course each year with fun and unexpected technical challenges. Distances are approximate and trail conditions are variable. If the skies are clear, expect fantastic views of the Alaska Range.

Strange things have been done in the Midnight Sun, and the story books are full.
But the strangest tale concerns the male, magnificent walrus bull!

I know it’s rude, quite common and crude, perhaps it is grossly unkind.
But with first glance at least, this bewhiskered beast, is as ugly in front as behind.

Look once again, take a second look, then you’ll see he’s not ugly or vile.
There’s a hint of a grin, in that blubbery chin, and the eyes have a shy secret smile.

How can this be, this clandestine glee, that exudes from the walrus like music?
He knows, there inside, beneath blubber and hide, lies a splendid contrivance — the Oosik!

“Oosik” you say — and quite well you may, I’ll explain if you keep it between us.
In the simplest truth, though rather uncouth, “Oosik” is, in fact, his penis!

Now the size alone of this walrus bone, would indeed arouse envious thinking.
It is also a fact, documented and backed, there is never a softening or shrinking!

This, then, is why the smile is so sly, the walrus is rightfully proud.
Though the climate is frigid, the walrus is rigid, pray, why, is not man so endowed?

Added to this, is a smile you might miss, though the bull is entitled to bow.
The one to out-smile our bull by a mile, is the satisfied walrus cow!

Amazing weekend all around! Um, here's a tricky one though... A nice group of 4 or so skiers came in to Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe at the beginning of the evening rush around 5:30pm and enjoyed some pizza and beer and forgot to pay...Ooops! If David with the orange jacket that was sitting at the square tile table could give the Squirrel a call, we would so much appreciate it! 907-733-nuts ... See MoreSee Less

Hi! I lost a pink trucker hat from Sackett's in Cooper Landing on the trail.

Cool deal Devin! Sounds just like it!

Sweet! I'll direct message you about it now.

Should show up in the "People/Message requests" section on the app.

Does anyone have any waxing recommendations for the race? Even on the heavily groomed trails here in Anchorage, with old, "corn" snow, kick wax seems to work quite well. Trying to avoid klister because all the vegetative 'trash" on the tracks sticks to it. Blue kick wax over the entire wax pocket with violet kick wax under the foot gave very good kick and reasonably good glide here in Eagle River yesterday (Wednesday). ... See MoreSee Less

Are volunteers still needed the morning of the race?

Just checking, on the website it states that March 14th is the last day to sign up for the race until the actual race day. Did it shut down on the 13th instead?

Winds will finally begin to diminish across the region Thursday through Thursday night as the low complex over the Gulf sinks south and eastward. With less and less wind each night and a very cold air mass in place, expect a downward trend in temperatures. That's from the Nat. Weather Service and I hope they know what they're talking about........

Will there be transportation back into town from the race finish? Also, will racers warm-up clothing be transported from the start up to the finish?
